Maxwell Gray is the middle child, a prince from the Kingdom of Hadel. After facing years of abuse at the hands of his father and the impossible missions he is given, Max is given the hardest one yet; obtain an alliance agreement with the Kingdom Of Klindworth by the end of the night.

Princess Javellana West of Klindworth dreads the idea of a suitor ball, but the time has come. After dancing the night away with Prince Theodore and her brief interaction with Prince Maxwell, her entire world is flipped upside down.

Prince Maxwell fails to obtain Javellana’s hand, leading to her being kidnapped by his Kingdom. After receiving yet another beating at the hands of his father, Max decides he has had enough.

Max and Javellana escape from Hadel, in hopes of making it back to Klindworth. They travel through the treacherous lands of Eragonia, fleeing the Hadelian armies and forming an unlikely friendship.
